4 Treatments for Sexual Wellness Issues Due to Aging

Both men and women have changes to their genitourinary tissue with aging. It can result in decreased sexual function, discomfort, bladder issues or tissue changes.

Here are some treatments that address sexual wellness:

Hormone Therapy

Women’s menopausal issues can be managed both hormonally or non-hormonally. Therapy includes prescription, bioidentical and/or pellet therapy as indicated by symptoms and medical history.

Male Hormone Pellet therapy is where testosterone pellets are inserted into the fat layer underneath the hip’s skin. The pellets release hormones slowly over time, maintaining constant and reliable blood levels. Those hormone levels will gradually rise, peak at 3-4 weeks and then gradually decrease over the following few months.

This treatment typically begins with an initial male hormone consultation ($50) which includes history and lab evaluation.

MonaLisa Touch

MonaLisa Touch is a safe and effective vaginal laser treatment for genitourinary changes including dryness, irritation, pain and recurrent infections. This treatment requires a series of three sessions every six weeks and will improve vulvovaginal symptoms, bladder issues and sexual wellness. It is well tolerated with little to no downtime.

Emsella

Emsella is a kegel chair that provides HIFEM (high intensity electromagnetic technology) to the pelvic floor for both men and women. This results in strengthened muscles, correction of bladder issues and enhanced blood flow. It’s a simple 28-minute treatment with no downtime or discomfort where patients remain fully dressed. Six weekly treatments are recommended followed by periodic followup sessions as needed (usually every 6-12 months).

Emsella does improve erectile function due to enhanced blood flow and pelvic floor stimulation.

Acoustic Wave Therapy

Acoustic Wave therapy is a shock-wave treatment that is painless and only takes 5 minutes every week for 6-8 weeks. This treatment stimulates new vascular growth and improves blood flow resulting in improved erectile function with no needles, drugs or discomfort. Most men will continue with followup sessions about every 6-12 weeks after an initial series of 6-8 sessions.
